Song Details
"Ain't We Got Fun?" is a popular foxtrot published in 1921 with music by Richard A. Whiting, lyrics by Raymond B. Egan and Gus Kahn.
It was first performed in 1920 in the revue Satires of 1920, then moved into vaudeville and recordings. "Ain't We Got Fun?" and its jaunty response to poverty and its promise of fun ("Every morning / Every evening", and "In the meantime, / In between time") have become symbolic of the Roaring Twenties, and it appears in some of the major literature of the decade, including The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and in Dorothy Parker's award-winning short story of 1929, "Big Blonde". The song also contains the line "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer"; though this phrase predates the song, its use increased with the song's popularity. Bill collectors gather
'Round and rather
Haunt the cottage next door
Men the grocer and butcher sent
Men who call for the rent
But with in a happy chappy
And his bride of only a year
Seem to be so cheerful
Here's an earful
Of the chatter you hear
Every morning
Every evening
Ain't we got fun
Not much money
Oh but honey
Ain't we got fun
The rent's unpaid dear
We haven't a bus
But smiles were made dear
For people like us
In the winter in the Summer
Don't we have fun
Times are bum and getting bummer
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get children
In the meantime
In the between time
Ain't we got fun.
Just to make their trouble nearly double
Something happen'd last night
To their chimney a gray bird came
Mister Stork is his name
And I'll bet two pins
A pair of twins
Just happen'd in with the bird
Still they're very gay and merry
Just at dawning I heard
Every morning
Every evening
Don't we have fun
Twins and cares dear come in pairs dear
Don't we have fun
We've only started
As mommer and pop
Are we downhearted
I'll say that we're not
Landlords mad and getting madder
Ain't we got fun
Times are so bad and getting badder
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get laid off
In the meantime
In between time
Ain't we got fun.

Waking life
There's an anchor that's pulling on my heart,
And it's deep in the water but it can't take me down.
Tracin' faces with fingers and we're just the same as we were,
Just our eyes never found what I see now,
That my feet are on the ground.
Chorus:
Cause I'm not lost, just looking for footprints.
I'm taking it, one step at a time and I'm getting by.
By the way,
It's you on my mind,
It's you on my mind.
And here comes the night pulling puppet strings on my heart again,
Shows me all of this time I've been blind to this waking life.
Now I...see it everywhere.
Chorus:
Cause I'm not lost, just looking for footprints,
Yeah.
And I'm takin it, one day at a time and I'm gettin by.
By the way.
You're still on my mind,
You're still on my mind.
I...can't...see...you but I know you're here,
I, know you're here.
I, know you're here.
I'm not lost, just looking for footprints.
I'm taking it, one step at a time and I'm getting by.
By the way.
I'm not lost, just looking for footprints.
And I'm takin it, one step at a time and I'm gettin' by.
And you'll still on my,
Oh you're still on my mind,
You're still on my mind,
Oh you're still on my mind,
Oh you're still on my mind.

"SOUNDTRACK LYRICS"
Gentle is sun
I breathe it in my soul
And I want to let it go
And come down, come down
Innocent we laugh
Easily we cry
Even through the cracks
We are simply human
You know we are
You know we are
Sometimes you just know
Sometimes you spin out of control
And there's always room to grow
So keep your head high
Innocent we laugh
Easily we cry
Even through the cracks
We are simply human
You know we are
You know we are

"SOUNDTRACK LYRICS"
When nightmares come,
keep you awake,
baby close your eyes,
I'll take the weight,
if I go to speak,
I will refrain and be the song,
just be the song.
When inner scars,
show on your face,
and darkness hides,
your sense of place,
well I won't speak,
I will refrain and be the song,
just be the song.
Flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys,
flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys,
flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys,
And when you run far from my eyes,
then I will come,
in dead of night,
but I won't speak,
till mornin' light,
I'll be the song,
just be the song.
Flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys,
flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys,
flow down all my mountains,
darlin' fill my valleys

"SOUNDTRACK LYRICS"
And meet me there, bundles of flowers,
We wait through the hours of cold
Winter shall howl at the walls,
Tearing down doors of time.
Shelter as we go...
And promise me this:
You'll wait for me only,
Scared of the lonely arms.
Surface, far below these words
And maybe, just maybe I'll come home
Who am I, darling to you?
Who am I?
Gonna tell you stories of mine
Who am I?
Who am I, darling for you?
Who am I?
Gonna be a burden in time, lonely
Who am I, to you?
Who am I, darling for you?
Who am I?
Going to be a burden
Who am I, darling to you?
Who am I?
I come alone here
I come alone here
